Chelsea vs. Newcastle (Sunday, 2.00pm)

Making amends for defeats in Premier League gameweek eight will be the goal for both Chelsea and Newcastle United in Sunday's top-flight clash at Stamford Bridge.

Enzo Maresca's men responded to their agonising 2-1 loss to Chelsea by easing past Panathinaikos 4-1 in the Conference League, while the Magpies were their own worst enemy in last weekend's 1-0 home defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion.

We say: Chelsea 2-0 Newcastle United

Chelsea do have a tendency to give up goals easily, but Newcastle's ruthlessness has been non-existent so far this month, and the Magpies should not rediscover it against a refreshed set of first-choice Blues.

Not since 2012 have Chelsea lost a Premier League home game to Newcastle, and that sequence should be extended on Sunday before the two sides go again in the EFL Cup.

Crystal Palace vs. Spurs (Sunday, 2.00pm)

Chasing a second London derby win in the space of two weeks, a revitalised Tottenham Hotspur meet lowly Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park in Sunday's Premier League contest.

The Lilywhites got the better of AZ Alkmaar by a goal to nil in the Europa League in midweek, while Oliver Glasner's meek men lost by the same scoreline at Nottingham Forest on Monday.

We say: Crystal Palace 0-2 Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham may have struggled to find their attacking bite against AZ, but Postecoglou did put out a second-string team, and his well-rested big hitters should have no problem teaching a profligate Palace a footballing lesson.

With Jean-Philippe Mateta losing his touch, Eberechi Eze struggling for form and Michael Olise long gone, Glasner's men just have not found a Plan B in the final third, and their wait for a win will surely go on.

West Ham vs. Man Utd (Sunday, 2.00pm)

Arguably the two most under-pressure head coaches in the Premier League go head-to-head on Sunday afternoon, when Julen Lopetegui's West Ham United host Erik ten Hag's Manchester United at the London Stadium.

While the Irons were humiliated 4-1 by London rivals Tottenham Hotspur last weekend, the Red Devils earned a relief-inducing 2-1 win over Brentford before escaping Fenerbahce with a 1-1 draw in the Europa League.

We say: West Ham United 0-1 Manchester United

The loss of Kudus ought to hit West Ham hard, even if the Irons do boast a surprisingly good record without him, and Irons fans are still wondering what their true identity and style of play under Lopetegui is.

As pitiful as Man United can also be, the Red Devils have developed a mean defensive streak on the road and can rely on individual talent at the other end to make the breakthrough, so the visitors should eke out another narrow success to keep Ten Hag kicking that bit longer.

Arsenal vs. Liverpool (Sunday, 4.30pm)

Gameweek nine of the 2024-25 Premier League season concludes with a tussle of titanic proportions at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday afternoon, when title rivals Arsenal and Liverpool butt heads.

Both English behemoths were unconvincing winners in their midweek Champions League affairs, as the Gunners edged out Shakhtar Donetsk 1-0 before the Reds conquered RB Leipzig by the same scoreline.

We say: Arsenal 0-0 Liverpool

The prospective return of Saka will slightly aid Arsenal on the creativity front, but Arteta's crop are now welcoming the meanest defence that the Premier League has to offer, one that has given up just three goals thus far.

Liverpool also rode their luck against Leipzig, though, and Arsenal can still put out a fearsome rearguard even without the influential Saliba. Avoiding defeat should be priority number one for the hosts on Sunday, where a dull draw is not beyond the realm of possibility.
