Spurs offered another glimpse of their credentials with a 2-0 win in the North London derby against Arsenal, while Liverpool followed that up by thrashing Wolverhampton Wanderers 4-0 at Anfield.
Chelsea and Leicester City are not far behind either, having beaten Leeds United and Sheffield United respectively.
Southampton's win over Brighton & Hove Albion leaves them fifth in the table, while the two Manchester clubs now sit sixth and seventh - Manchester United in sixth following another away comeback win, this time against West Ham United, while Manchester City are a point and a place behind following their win over Fulham.
Crystal Palace returned to winning and goalscoring ways in style with a 5-1 hammering of West Bromwich Albion, while Burnley and Everton played out a 1-1 draw.

There were a few goalkeeping performances worthy of a mention this weekend, including those of Hugo Lloris and Premier League debutant Caoimhin Kelleher - two of only three to keep a clean sheet.
However, arguably the two standout performances came in the same game, with Nick Pope earning the nod over Jordan Pickford, having made five saves to earn Burnley a point against Everton.
Competition was also fierce at centre-back, where Kurt Zouma, Joel Matip and Jannik Vestergaard were all on the scoresheet. Vestergaard also won 10 aerial duels in Southampton's win over Brighton to earn his spot in this week's XI alongside Fabinho, who once again excelled as an emergency centre-back.
Indeed, Liverpool's defensive record has actually improved since losing Virgil van Dijk and then Joe Gomez, with Andrew Robertson the last man standing from their first-choice back four in recent weeks. The Scot was in flying form down the left during Liverpool's win over Wolves to earn a place in this week's team.
On the opposite flank, Reece James provided the assist for the opening goal in Chelsea's win over Leeds to beat Joao Cancelo, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Nathaniel Clyne and Serge Aurier to the right-back spot.

Wijnaldum's clubmate Mohamed Salah scored one and assisted another in that win over Wolves and is very unfortunate not to make the cut this week, while Harry Kane also misses out despite producing the same haul.
Marcus Rashford, Eberechi Eze and Jamie Vardy also deserve mentions, but two of our front three come from Palace's five-star showing, with Christian Benteke and Wilfried Zaha both helping themselves to braces at The Hawthorns.
On the left, Son Heung-min does make the cut following his goal and assist against Arsenal, with his strike to open the scoring coming in sensational style.
