Ruben de la Red scored a late goal for Real Madrid legends as the Spanish outfit recorded a 2-1 win over their Manchester United counterparts at Old Trafford on Sunday.
It was Madrid that took the lead courtesy of a strike from Fernando Morientes, who received a pass from Claude Makelele before finishing past Edwin van der Sar in the United goal.
The home side were level courtesy of a strike from Ruud van Nistelrooy, however, with the Dutchman playing a half for each team.
Madrid secured the victory in the latter stages with De la Red, who was forced to retire from the game in 2005, finishing past Raimond van der Gouw.
Former United left-back Denis Irwin told MUTV: "We were hanging in there, we were defending better and seemed to have more of the ball as the game opened up a bit.
"But the quality that they had was unbelievable with players like [Zinedine] Zidane, [Luis] Figo and [Fernando] Hierro, some of whom haven't been out of the game for too long. It was fantastic and keeping the ball is second nature to them, but it was a great game to play in."
Madrid won the reverse fixture 3-2 last season.
