Danny Murphy: 'Time for Manchester United to sack Louis van Gaal'

Danny Murphy believes that Manchester United should call time on Louis van Gaal's managerial tenure at Old Trafford.

Danny Murphy has said that the time is right for Manchester United to part company with manager Louis van Gaal.

The Dutchman is 18 months into his three-year contract at Old Trafford, but he has come under increasing pressure over recent weeks.

The Red Devils are without a victory in their last six games, which has seen them drop to fifth in the Premier League, nine points adrift of leaders Leicester City.

Early exits from the Champions League and League Cup have also not helped Van Gaal's cause, while his possession-based playing style has also been widely criticised.

In the wake of Saturday's 2-1 home defeat at the hands of Norwich City, Murphy claimed that the body language of the United players meant that there should be no way back for the 64-year-old boss.

"I think United need a change. I am not one of these people that think you should sack managers every time you have a bad run but I can see the players' body language and I can sense the players aren't [behind him]," the former Liverpool and England midfielder told talkSPORT.

A report in Spain earlier today suggested that Jose Mourinho has agreed a five-year contract to replace Van Gaal.
