Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag believes that his job is safe despite rumours suggesting that Thomas Tuchel is waiting to take over the reins at Old Trafford.

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is reportedly hopeful that he will keep his job despite the suggestion that Thomas Tuchel is poised to replace him.

Ten Hag appeared to be on the verge of the sack in the closing stages of the 2023-24 season after his side crashed out of the Champions League group stage and finished in eighth place in the Premier League.

However, the Dutchman subsequently led Man United to FA Cup glory with a 2-1 win over rivals Manchester City in May's final.

Instead of being sacked, Ten Hag was handed a one-year contract extension to theoretically keep him at Old Trafford until the summer of 2026.

However, less than six months on from the FA Cup triumph, Ten Hag is facing a fresh fight to retain his position in the Old Trafford dugout.

Ten Hag confident of keeping Man United job

The Red Devils have failed to win any of their last five competitive matches, while they have won just two of their seven Premier League games this season.

Having mustered just eight points, Man United have entered the international break in 14th place in the Premier League table.

With Ten Hag under pressure, former Chelsea manager Tuchel is believed to be the 'prime contender' to succeed the 54-year-old.

However, according to ESPN, Ten Hag is still hopeful of retaining his job despite the speculation linking his role with Tuchel.

The report claims that Ten Hag believes he has the backing of his bosses after holding conversations with Man United's leadership team following Sunday's goalless draw against Aston Villa.

Believing his job is secure, the former Ajax boss has now gone on holiday after giving time off to the first-team players not involved in the international window.

When will Ten Hag's future be decided?

However, Ten Hag's future is expected to be discussed in Tuesday's pre-planned meeting between Man United's key decision-makers.

Co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe is set to meet with INEOS' head of sport Dave Brailsford, Man United CEO Omar Berrada, sporting director Dan Ashworth, technical director Jason Wilcox and fellow co-owner Joel Glazer.

In addition to Ten Hag's position, the Man United hierarchy are also set to discuss plans for the January transfer window.

Man United will return to action with a home game against Brentford on October 19, but it is currently unclear whether Ten Hag will still be in the Old Trafford dugout for that Premier League fixture. body check tags ::
