Man United 'hand' Erik ten Hag deadline to avoid the sack

Manchester United are reportedly not willing to give Erik ten Hag any assurances over the safety of his job until improvements are seen on the pitch in the near future.

Manchester United have reportedly given Erik ten Hag no guarantees over the safety of his job until the end of the season.

The Red Devils have endured a mixed start to their competitive schedule in 2024-25, starting with a defeat in the FA Community Shield to Manchester City at Wembley in August.

Since then, Man United have earned six points from a quartet of Premier League outings, securing wins over Fulham and most recently newly-promoted Southampton at St Mary's.

The success on the South coast last weekend was the most convincing result of the Red Devils' campaign to date, although the visitors had to manage a tricky opening 30 minutes before assuming control of proceedings.

Wins over the Cottagers and the Saints sandwiched back-to-back defeats in the league to Brighton & Hove Albion and arch rivals Liverpool at the Theatre of Dreams.

Ten Hag's Man United future in limbo?

According to GIVEMESPORT, Manchester United are still unsure whether Ten Hag is the correct long-term solution for the club in the managerial hotseat.

The report claims that although the Dutchman's position is not under any immediate threat, the hierarchy have been left unconvinced by the Red Devils' start to the season.

Ten Hag's troops currently occupy 10th position in the Premier League standings, already six points adrift of league leaders Manchester City.

It is understood that Man United's owners are looking to see a development in the identity of the team in order to reassure them that on-field matters are heading in right direction.

As a result, it is believed that Ten Hag has been given no assurances that his position as head coach is safe until the end of the 2024-25 campaign.

Man United are entering a crucial period

After a month of Premier League contests every week, Man United are on the verge of entering their first busy period of the season, as their EFL Cup and Europa League campaigns commence.

League One Barnsley are the visitors to Old Trafford on Tuesday night for a third-round clash in the EFL Cup, before the Red Devils' continental adventures begin against FC Twente on September 25.

Sandwiched between those two fixtures is a tricky-looking trip in the Premier League to Selhurst Park, where Man United struggled massively at last season against Crystal Palace.

A top-flight meeting against Tottenham Hotspur rounds off September for Ten Hag, who could have one foot out of the door if things go badly over the next fortnight. body check tags ::
