Ex-Manchester United star Rafael: 'It would be great if Liverpool denied title'

:Headline: Ex-Manchester United star Rafael: 'It would be great if Liverpool denied title':
Former Manchester United defender Rafael da Silva says that scrapping the Premier League season would be "great" as Liverpool will miss out on the title.

Rafael da Silva has admitted that it would be "great" for former club Manchester United if bitter rivals Liverpool are denied a first Premier League title by the coronavirus pandemic.

The Reds are two wins away from sealing a first top-flight crown in 30 years after opening up a 25-point gap on second-placed Manchester City with a game in hand to play.

However, the season has been halted indefinitely due to the COVID-19 outbreak, with speculation that the current campaign could be scrapped completely if play does not resume before July.

Ex-United full-back Rafael, who won three league titles at Old Trafford, confessed that seeing Liverpool miss out on the title by default would be a good thing for the Red Devils.

"Everybody's talking about 'stop the competition', no? They don't get to 20! It will be hard for them [if the Premier League is voided], great for us," he told MUTV.

Luke Shaw is among those to have called on the Premier League season to be scrapped if play does not resume soon. body check tags ::
