Sports Mole looks at three midfielders that Manchester United could sign before the end of the summer transfer window.

Manchester United have made four signings during this summer's transfer window, with Joshua Zirkzee, Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui arriving to boost the squad.

Yoro is currently on the sidelines due to the fractured metatarsal that he suffered against Arsenal during pre-season, but Zirkzee, De Ligt and Mazraoui all made their debuts for the Red Devils in Friday's 1-0 win over Fulham in the Premier League.

Man United are expected to sign at least one more player before the end of the transfer window, though, with a new central midfielder wanted by the club.

Here, Sports Mole discusses three potential options for the 20-time English champions, who will be looking to move more players on in the latter stages of the window to make room for new signings.

Manuel Ugarte (Paris Saint-Germain)

Ugarte was left out of the Paris Saint-Germain squad for the team's opening match of the new Ligue 1 campaign on Friday night, and he is widely expected to leave the French champions before the summer market closes for business.

There are said to be other clubs in talks with PSG over the Uruguay international, but Man United are believed to be firmly at the head of the queue, and the 23-year-old has allegedly made it clear that he wants to move to Old Trafford.

Ugarte starred for Sporting Lisbon ahead of his switch to PSG, and he made 37 appearances for the Ligue 1 team last term, but he seemingly does not figure in Enrique's plans moving forward.

It is believed that personal terms have already been agreed, but Man United are still attempting to come to an agreement with the French giants over a fee.

Man United's last offer for Ugarte is thought to have been around €45m (£38.3m), which is short of the Ligue 1 club's asking price of €60m (£51.1m), but there is hope that a compromise can be reached in the near future.

Sander Berge (Burnley)

Berge would represent a cheaper option for Man United, with Burnley believed to want in the region of £30m for the 26-year-old, who was impressive for the Clarets in the Premier League last season despite the team's relegation to the Championship.

The Norway international was not involved in Burnley's Championship opener against Luton Town, although his absence was due to a thigh problem.

Berge has scored twice and registered two assists in 40 appearances for his current side, while he managed 15 goals and 12 assists in 109 games for Sheffield United.

The 6ft 5in central midfielder is an interesting option for Man United, as he is different to the other players currently operating in that area of the field.

If the Red Devils are forced to admit defeat in their pursuit of Ugarte, then it would not be a surprise to see Berge arrive at Old Trafford.

Sofyan Amrabat (Fiorentina)

Amrabat spent last season on loan at Man United from Fiorentina, making 30 appearances in all competitions, but the Red Devils turned down the chance to bring him to the club on a permanent basis earlier this summer.

There remains speculation surrounding the Morocco international, though, and a return to Old Trafford has not been completely ruled out at this stage.

Man United were not willing to pay €20m (£16.9m) to sign him on a permanent basis, but it is believed that the two clubs are still holding discussions.

Amrabat featured in the English team's last six Premier League matches of last season and also started the FA Cup final against Manchester City.

The Moroccan is seemingly down the priority list, but if deals for Ugarte and Berge are not possible, then he could potentially secure a return to Erik ten Hag's side in the latter stages of the market. body check tags ::
