Alex Telles 'set to return to Manchester United this summer'

Sevilla are not planning to sign on-loan Manchester United defender on a permanent basis this summer, according to a report.

Alex Telles will reportedly head back to Manchester United this summer, with Sevilla deciding against signing the left-back on a permanent basis.

The 30-year-old was allowed to join Sevilla on loan last August, with Tyrell Malacia arriving at Old Trafford to provide competition for Luke Shaw at left-back.

Telles has been a regular for the Spanish club during the 2022-23 campaign, featuring on 26 occasions in all competitions, contributing three assists in the process.

The Brazil international has played 17 matches in La Liga this term, while he featured six times in the group stage of the Champions League.

Telles has also played on three occasions in the Europa League, and Sevilla will meet Man United in the quarter-finals of the competition, with the first leg taking place at Old Trafford on April 13.

According to Estadio Deportivo, Sevilla are not intending to purchase the Brazilian on a permanent basis this summer, meaning that he will head back to Old Trafford at the end of the campaign.

The report claims that Telles is also not in the plans of Red Devils head coach Erik ten Hag, meaning that he could join another club either on loan or permanently upon his return from Estadio Ramon.

Sevilla are allegedly happy with his 'commitment and performance' this term but are not prepared to pay his parent club's valuation.

The defender arrived at Man United from Porto in 2020, and he has played 50 times for the 20-time English champions in all competitions, contributing one goal and eight assists in the process.

Telles has a deal at Old Trafford until June 2024, meanwhile, and his high wages could make it difficult to sell him in the upcoming market.

"What I have to do is do my job in the best way possible," Telles recently told reporters. "I don't think about the future because that depends on what I do now. Now I have to play and train.

"I've always said that I'm happy at Sevilla, I'm treated very well and now I have to play and do my best, which is the most important thing."

Shaw has overcome his early-season struggles to become Man United's first-choice left-back once again, while Malacia has also impressed during his first season at the club, featuring on 30 occasions in all competitions.

As well as Telles, Dean Henderson, Eric Bailly, Amad Diallo, Axel Tuanzebe, Hannibal Mejbri, Shola Shoretire and Alvaro Fernandez are currently on loan at other clubs from Man United. body check tags ::
