Ruben Amorim's expected arrival at Manchester United will allegedly move the Red Devils to the head of the queue for Sporting Lisbon centre-forward Viktor Gyokeres.
The Sweden international is currently one of the most in-demand strikers in world football, having scored 59 goals and registered 19 assists in 65 appearances for Sporting since arriving from Coventry City in July 2023.
Gyokeres has been in excellent form this season, scoring 16 goals and registering four assists in 15 appearances, and he has a contract with the Green and Whites until the summer of 2028.
There is a €100m (£83m) release clause in his contract, although it has been suggested that he would be allowed to leave if the Portuguese club were to receive an offer of around €70m (£58m).
According to Football Insider, Amorim's arrival at Man United will give them a huge advantage when it comes to the race for the 26-year-old due to the manager's strong relationship with the player.
Amorim arrival 'will give Man United advantage in Gyokeres race'
Amorim is Man United's leading target to replace Erik ten Hag, with the Dutchman losing his job at Old Trafford on Monday due to the team's struggles during the 2024-25 campaign.
The Portuguese has allegedly agreed to make the move to the Red Devils, but the English club are yet to come to an agreement with Sporting when it comes to his notice period.
Man United have signalled a willingness to pay his buy-out fee of €10m (£8.3m) immediately, but Sporting allegedly want a further €5m (£4.2m) to let him leave now, with that also including compensation for coaches Carlos Fernandes, Adelio Candido and Jorge Vital.
There is said to be a 30-day notice period in Amorim's contract, and Sporting may not let him leave until that has been served, although a switch during the November international break is also possible.
How have Man United's current strikers performed this season?
Alejandro Garnacho is Man United's leading goalscorer this season, with the Argentine scoring five goals and registering three assists in 14 appearances, while Marcus Rashford has four goals and three assists in 14 outings.
Rasmus Hojlund, though, has only managed two goals in eight appearances, with the Denmark international missing the start of the season due to a hamstring problem.
Joshua Zirkzee only has one goal in 13 appearances, and a lack of a reliable goalscorer has been a real problem for the Red Devils this season, so it will surely be an area that Amorim looks to improve in next summer, should he arrive at Old Trafford.
