Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing Atalanta BC midfielder Ederson.
The Red Devils are preparing to start a new era under Amorim, with the Red Devils set to face newly-promoted Ipswich Town on Sunday.
Amorim will look to maximise the potential of the players currently at his disposal, but there is the possibility that he will try to stamp his mark on the squad in the January transfer window.
The Red Devils have been linked with a number of names ahead of the January market, including Amorim's former Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres.
While they may look to bolster their forward options, Man United are also open to the prospect of bringing in a new midfielder despite recruiting Manuel Ugarte in the summer.
Man United eyeing Ederson move
There has been speculation suggesting that the Red Devils could allow Casemiro to leave the club when the transfer window opens in the new year.
Casemiro's potential departure would open up a space in the engine room for Amorim to bring in a new midfielder in his first transfer window as Man United boss.
According to journalist Florian Plettenburg, Man United are 'discussing and considering' Ederson as a possible transfer target.
Ederson is said to be 'highly valued internally' at Old Trafford, having seemingly impressed with his performances for Atalanta.
The Serie A side are in a relatively strong negotiating position, with Ederson under contract until the summer of 2027.
As per TEAMtalk, the Italian club would demand at least €50m (£41.6m) to consider parting ways with one of their most prized assets in the middle of the season.
Who is Man United's transfer target?
Ederson has established himself as one of the top midfielders in Serie A during his 83 league appearances as an Atalanta player.
The Brazilian played a key role in Atalanta's successful 2023-24 campaign, helping the club triumph in the Europa League to win their first-ever major European trophy.
Ederson also helped Atalanta achieve Champions League qualification via a fourth-place finish as well as a final appearance in the Coppa Italia.
The central midfielder has continued to be a regular fixture during the current campaign, having started 16 of Atalanta's 17 competitive matches this term.
