Sofyan Amrabat is hopeful that his performances for Manchester United this season will convince the club to sign him on a permanent basis next summer.

The Morocco international is only on loan with the Red Devils from Fiorentina, but the English team have the option to sign him permanently at the end of the 2023-24 campaign.

Amrabat featured as a late substitute against Burnley in the Premier League on Saturday evening before making his full debut in Tuesday's EFL Cup clash with Crystal Palace, impressing in his side's 3-0 win.

The 27-year-old has confirmed his desire to sign permanently with Erik ten Hag's side, but he is currently focusing on producing the best performances possible for his loan club.

"Of course, I would love to stay here, but I don't look too far in the future. For me, today, I am a Manchester United player," The Sun quotes Amrabat as saying.

"The only thing I can do is give everything that I have, to do my best to try to help the team. I hope we have a fantastic season, I hope we can win something, and then later we will see what will happen."

A recent report claimed that Liverpool came within hours of signing Amrabat in the latter stages of the window, but the midfielder has said that he only ever wanted to move to Old Trafford.

"After the last game with the club, that was the moment the window started for me. A lot of clubs, a lot of speaking, talking, but for me it was clear I wanted Manchester United," he added.

"They were long, long months for me, very difficult months for me. But in the end it was nice on the last day that I signed here.

"I have a lot of confidence because I see that we have so much quality. I think we were a bit unlucky with the injuries we had.

"For every team it's difficult if you have a lot of injuries. I see a lot of quality, we have a fantastic coach, fantastic fans, so I believe we can do something big.

"But at the end you have to show it on the pitch, not with talking, not with speaking, you have to work for it and hopefully we can reach something very nice."

Amrabat has thus far operated as a left-back for Man United due to the team's injury situation, and he has revealed that he is comfortable in that area.

"It was with the manager seven years ago at Utrecht, I was 19, 20 years old and he asked me to play there and I did it, so he knew I could play there," he added.

The loan is thought to be costing Man United €10m (£8.6m), while the purchase option next summer is said to be worth €20m (£17.1m) plus €5m (£4.3m) in add-ons. body check tags ::
