Arsenal are reportedly in talks with Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Denis Zakaria over a move to the Emirates in 2022.
The Switzerland international is due to become a free agent in the summer of 2022 and is not thought to have any intention of extending his Monchengladbach deal.
A switch to the Premier League has been strongly mooted, with Manchester United and Liverpool both credited with an interest.
However, Arsenal appear to have stolen a march on their top-flight rivals, with Fussball Transfers claiming that the Gunners are in contact with Zakaria's entourage over a free transfer.
The report adds that Arsenal's hopes of winning the race for the 25-year-old will hinge on their ability to qualify for European football, and numerous clubs abroad are also keeping a close eye on developments.
Zakaria boasts two goals and one assist from 11 Bundesliga games this season and has made 140 appearances for Monchengladbach in total.
