Barcelona 'prepared to let Memphis Depay leave for £4.3m in January'

Memphis Depay could be available for as little as £4.3m during the January transfer window due to Barcelona's desire to sell him, according to a report.

Barcelona are reportedly willing to listen to offers of around €5m (£4.3m) for Memphis Depay in January.

The 28-year-old was widely expected to leave the Catalan giants over the summer, but the transfer window closed with the Netherlands international still at Camp Nou.

Memphis enjoyed a productive 2021-22 campaign at Barcelona following his arrival on a free transfer, finding the back of the net on 13 occasions, in addition to contributing two assists.

The Dutchman has hardly featured for Xavi's side this term, only making three appearances, although he has been unavailable for selection for a long period due to injury.

Memphis's last outing for the club came against Elche in the middle of September, when he found the back of the net in what proved to be a 3-0 victory for Xavi's side.

The forward only has six months left to run on his contract at Camp Nou, meaning that, as it stands, he will be free to hold talks with foreign clubs at the start of 2023.

Barcelona are allegedly not planning to renew his deal, but they also do not want to lose him on a free transfer, so the club are open to low offers during the January transfer window.

According to AS, bids in the region of €5m (£4.3m) would be seriously considered, as it would also allow them to remove his wages from the budget in the middle of the campaign.

The report claims that Chelsea could again be an option, with Memphis more open to moving to Stamford Bridge than he was during the summer transfer window.

Meanwhile, the Dutchman's former club Manchester United are also believed to be keeping a close eye on the developments, with Cristiano Ronaldo's contract set to be terminated.

Memphis is currently with the Netherlands squad preparing for the 2022 World Cup, where he will be bidding to add to the 42 goals that he scored for his national side since debuting in 2013.

"I was almost ready to resume group training at Barcelona when I had a setback," he told reporters last week. "You should know: I really had to hold back at times. I missed an important period at Barcelona, when they needed me and I wanted to be important for the team."

Netherlands boss Louis van Gaal has already confirmed that Memphis will not be in the starting XI for the team's World Cup opener against Senegal on November 21 due to his recent injury problems.

"It was difficult to hear that I will not start," the forward told NOS. "But everything has a reason and the trainer has a vision with the team. We communicate well with each other."

Holland will also face Ecuador and Qatar in the group stage of the tournament.
