Former Manchester United and Real Madrid midfielder David Beckham believes that Cristiano Ronaldo should return to Old Trafford if he decides to leave the Bernabeu.

Former Manchester United and Real Madrid midfielder David Beckham has suggested that Cristiano Ronaldo should return to Old Trafford if he decides to leave the Bernabeu.

The 30-year-old winger - who left the Premier League side to join the Spanish giants for a fee of £80m - has been the subject of speculation surrounding his future in recent weeks, with reports suggesting the Portugal international could move to Paris Saint-Germain.

Ex-England captain Beckham - who made the same move from Manchester to Madrid in 2003 - believes that Ronaldo should avoid a switch to Ligue 1, and return to the Premier League with United instead.

"If he decides to leave Real then, for me personally, it's back to United," Beckham is quoted as saying by the Daily Star. "I never had the opportunity to do that but I'm proud of the teams I played for after leaving United.

"Obviously given the chance once I'd left United, to have played for one of the biggest clubs in the world – Real Madrid – that was a dream.

"But I'd never advise any player not to return to United."

Ronaldo made 292 appearances for Manchester United from 2003 to 2009, scoring 118 goals.
