Manchester United youngster Tyler Blackett has signed a new deal at Old Trafford which will see him remain at the club until the summer of 2017.
The 20-year-old defender was handed his United debut by manager Louis van Gaal on the opening day of the season against Swansea City, and has since gone on to make 10 appearances for the Red Devils.
However, with his original contract due to expire at the end of the campaign, and just one Premier League appearance to his name since the turn of the year, it had been reported that the Man United academy product was likely to be heading for the exit.
A new two-year deal has put an end to any speculation, however, with an option to extend those terms by a further year should both parties agree.
Speaking to the club's official website, Van Gaal said: "I am delighted that Tyler has signed a new contract. He is another young player that has risen through the academy system to break into the first-team squad this season.
"Tyler has great potential and I believe he is at the right club to continue his development and progression to become a great defender."
Blackett's last appearance came in the 1-0 home defeat against Southampton in January.
