Former Manchester United full-back Clayton Blackmore has told Sports Mole that the club should part with the reported £43m fee required to secure the permanent services of Radamel Falcao.
The Colombian international, who suffered a cruciate knee ligament injury in January and returned to action in August, arrived at Old Trafford on a season-long loan deal from Ligue 1 outfit Monaco last summer.
Since then, the 29-year-old has struggled to recapture the clinical form that he showed earlier in his career with Porto and Atletico Madrid, having scored just four goals from his 19 appearances.
That is the same goal return as midfielders Marouane Fellaini and Ander Herrera, both of whom have played two games less than Falcao.
Nevertheless, Blackmore believes that the centre-forward should not shoulder the blame for his lack of goals, choosing instead to criticise a shortage of chances that have been created for the two-time Ballon d'Or nominee.
"He's a world-class striker. At the moment, we aren't making enough chances for him in the box. He's a penalty-box player and one of the best. His movement is really good," said the Welshman.
"If we are going to challenge next year in the Champions League, we are going to need four top strikers and he would be a part of that four for me. It would be a mastery signing.
"I know the press have been saying that he's a flop and hasn't scored enough goals, but it's not his fault. The team isn't making enough chances for him right now."
Falcao was substituted in the 60th minute of United's FA Cup tie against Preston North End last night.
