Kevin-Prince Boateng: 'Manchester United wanted to sign me in 2013'

Ghana international Kevin-Prince Boateng says that Manchester United were interested in signing him in 2013, only for Sir Alex Ferguson to rule out the move.

Kevin-Prince Boateng has claimed that Manchester United made an attempt to sign him in 2013, only for Sir Alex Ferguson to pull the plug on the transfer.

Having linked up with Fiorentina during the summer window, Boateng has now represented 11 different clubs during his professional career.

The Ghana international's most consistent period arguably came during a spell with AC Milan between 2010 and 2013, and the playmaker says that it almost led to a switch to United.

However, Boateng has suggested that his versatility in the final third cost him a transfer to Old Trafford.

Boateng is quoted by DAZN as saying: "I am 32 years old now and I feel in good shape. I like the idea of playing as a 'False 9' and have been considered a bit of a joker in the pack for years now. It can be an advantage, but also damaging to change role all the time.

"Nobody knows that after Milan, I had the opportunity to join Manchester United, but Sir Alex Ferguson asked himself: what position am I meant to play him in?

"I was a jack of all trades in his view and master of none. The transfer was abandoned and I started to focus on being more specific in my approach."

Before signing for Milan, Boateng had spells in the Premier League with Tottenham Hotspur and Portsmouth.
