Barcelona are reportedly keen on signing Atalanta BC midfielder Ederson and could move for the Brazil international during next summer's transfer window.
There was a host of speculation surrounding the 25-year-old's future over the summer, with a number of clubs believed to have considered making a move for him.
Manchester United were heavily linked with Ederson, as a deal for Manuel Ugarte stalled, but the Red Devils were eventually able to come to an agreement with Paris Saint-Germain over a move for the Uruguay international.
Newcastle United are also thought to have explored a potential deal for the South American but were unable to make the numbers work, with Ederson therefore remaining with Atalanta.
The midfielder has a contract with his Italian club until June 2027, but it is believed to be likely that he will be on the move during next summer's transfer window, and according to TNT Sports, Barcelona are keen.
Barcelona 'in the mix' for Atalanta midfielder Ederson
Ederson has again been a vital player for Atalanta this season, making six appearances in all competitions, providing one assist.
The midfielder arrived at the Italian giants from Salernitana in 2022, and he has represented the club on 96 occasions, scoring eight goals and registering three assists in the process.
Ederson, who is valued at £33.5m by transfermarkt, made his first-ever appearance in the Champions League last week, helping his side to claim a point in their 2024-25 opener against Arsenal.
According to WhoScored, the Brazilian had a pass success rate of 86%, while he made one tackle and completed two dribbles during a strong showing against Mikel Arteta's side.
Barcelona are expected to boost their midfield next summer
Barcelona's need for a new midfielder is obvious, especially with question marks surrounding the long-term future of Frenkie de Jong.
Gavi remains out with a long-term knee injury, while Fermin Lopez and Marc Bernal are also currently unavailable for selection.
Lopez will be back within the next few weeks, but Bernal suffered a serious knee injury earlier this season and is highly unlikely to be available until the 2025-26 campaign.
Marc Casado and Pablo Torre are currently benefiting from the midfield absences, while Eric Garcia is also operating in that area, but the club need at least one midfielder in 2025, and Ederson has seemingly been identified as the ideal addition considering his quality. body check tags ::
