Edinson Cavani: 'I never pushed for Paris Saint-Germain exit'

Paris Saint-Germain forward Edinson Cavani says that he was never close to leaving the French champions in the summer transfer window.

Edinson Cavani has insisted that he has never actively tried to leave Paris Saint-Germain, despite another summer of transfer speculation.

The Uruguay international joined the French champions in the summer of 2013 and has scored 64 times in 106 games for the Paris side.

The striker has been linked with a move away from Laurent Blanc's team in the last couple of transfer windows, with his desire to play in a central area said to be a reason for his unhappiness.

Cavani, however, who has scored eight goals in 10 games this season, has denied that he ever wanted to leave.

"In football, there are a lot of things that depend not on the footballer but on the club," Cavani told RMC. "Often when a player decides to change club it's not solely his choice. It's a decision made in agreement with the club, which seeks the best solution for both parties."

"PSG have always shown me their desire to keep me, to make me a player for the future of the club. That's important for me. It gives me a lot of energy to work.

"For three years, people have talked far too much about things that didn't exist. My desire was always to stay and to reach the goals set by the club. At the moment I feel very good in Paris."

Arsenal and Manchester United were both strongly linked with the 28-year-old in the most recent transfer window.
