Chelsea have reportedly joined Manchester United in the race to sign Inter Milan centre-back Milan Skriniar during the January transfer window.
United have been heavily linked with a move for the Slovakia international as Jose Mourinho tries to bolster his defensive options, but he could now face competition from his former club.
Metro reports that Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri has identified Skriniar as a January target to help the Blues sustain their title challenge during the second half of the season.
Sarri brought in Jorginho, Mateo Kovacic and Kepa Arrizabalaga during the summer and his side have since launched an unexpected title charge, remaining unbeaten during the first 12 matches of the campaign.
However, the Italian manager is thought to be unhappy with his options at centre-back and believes that Skriniar would significantly improve his side as they look to keep pace with Manchester City and Liverpool.
The 23-year-old Skriniar is valued at around £70m by Inter, who are desperate to keep the defender and are currently in talks over a new contract at San Siro.
