Chelsea are reportedly planning to make a last-ditch attempt to hijack Manchester United's proposed move for Raphael Varane.

Real Madrid are thought to have accepted the World Cup winning-Frenchman's inevitable exit this summer, and he has supposedly been given the green light to enter discussions with United.

Varane is said understood to be in line for a whopping £10.3m yearly salary at Old Trafford, but the Red Devils are yet to agree a fee with Real Madrid, which Chelsea are reportedly hoping to take advantage of.

According to Marca, the Blues remain interested in Varane and are not giving up hope of a deal, while Paris Saint-Germain are also keeping a close eye on any further developments.

The report adds that Real Madrid tabled an improved contract offer to the defender several weeks ago, which he is yet to respond to, and Los Blancos want his exit to be finalised as soon as possible if he refuses to pen fresh terms.

The World Cup winner has won four Champions League titles and three La Liga crowns during his 10-year stay at the Bernabeu, where he has scored 17 goals in 360 appearances.
