Chelsea will reportedly make an official offer for Bayer Leverkusen's Kai Havertz once their position in next season's Champions League has been secured.
The Blues are in pole position to claim a top-four finish in the Premier League, currently occupying third spot in the table ahead of their final two league matches against Liverpool and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Frank Lampard's side are only one point clear of fifth-placed Manchester United, though, and could potentially still finish outside of the top four.
The London giants continue to be strongly linked with a move for Havertz, who is allegedly 'very interested' in joining the club despite suggestions that Man United and Real Madrid are also in the hunt.
According to ESPN, Lampard's team are expected to launch a formal offer once their qualification for Europe's leading competition has been confirmed, if that is the case.
The report claims that the Blues are in a strong financial position despite the coronavirus pandemic, although their funds would be boosted further by ensuring that they are in next season's Champions League.
Havertz enjoyed an excellent 2019-20 campaign for his German club, scoring 17 times and registering nine assists in 43 appearances in all competitions.
