Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea has said that he is "really happy" at Old Trafford amid the ongoing speculation surrounding his future.

The 32-year-old only has a contract with the Red Devils until the end of the campaign, and there have been suggestions that the 20-time English champions could bring in a new number one this summer.

De Gea has allegedly rejected Man United's latest contract offer, with the experienced stopper not prepared to accept a huge drop on his current salary, which is in the region of £375,000 a week.

However, it is believed that a resolution will be found in the coming weeks, with the Red Devils keen to keep hold of the Spaniard, who is determined to extend his stay in Manchester.

De Gea has said that he is currently focusing on helping Man United enjoy a strong end to the campaign, with the team still chasing silverware in three competitions.

"Of course I've been here many, many years enjoying every moment in this club, playing many, many games," De Gea told Sky Sports News. "Of course is great to be here, it's a massive club, I love the club and I'm really happy here of course.

"It has been the same over the years, a lot of noise about everything in this club but the players, we just focus on games. Especially the one we have on Sunday (against Newcastle United) is a massive one for us because we want to finish in the top four.

"Like I say we have many, many games so we have to be really focused on training well, recovering well, helping the team and that's the most important thing, rather than contracts or anything."

De Gea has made 42 appearances for Man United during the 2022-23 campaign, keeping 18 clean sheets in the process, with 11 of those shutouts coming in the Premier League.

The Spaniard helped the Red Devils win the EFL Cup at the end of February, while Erik ten Hag's side are in the semi-finals of the FA Cup and quarter-finals of the Europa League.

Man United's immediate focus is on the Premier League, though, as they prepare to resume their campaign away to fellow top-four hopefuls Newcastle on Sunday afternoon.

The 20-time English champions are currently third in the table, three points clear of fifth-placed Newcastle, with both teams having two games in hand on fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur.

De Gea has not missed a single Premier League game for Man United this season, but he was rested for four matches of the team's EFL Cup campaign.

Tom Heaton's ankle injury, which will keep him out for at least the next couple of weeks, means that on-loan Crystal Palace goalkeeper Jack Butland will provide the back-up for De Gea at St James' Park. body check tags ::
