Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea has said that he is "really, really happy" at Old Trafford and wants to stay at the club "for more years".

The 31-year-old made his 498th appearance for the Red Devils in Sunday's Premier League clash at Goodison Park, where Erik ten Hag's side came from behind to record a 2-1 victory.

Alex Iwobi sent Everton ahead in the early stages of the contest, but Antony levelled the scores before Cristiano Ronaldo won it with his 700th club goal.

After the match, De Gea said that the victory will be "massive" for the "confidence" of the team, and the stopper also addressed his own future amid the recent speculation.

"We controlled the game until maybe the last 10 minutes. It was massive for our confidence, we have to look forward to the next games. It's an honour to be here, it's a privilege," he told BT Sport.

"It was great to be in goal today, with the team fighting for three points. He's [Ronaldo] never been in this situation before [starting on the bench], but the way he works and trains, it's just unbelievable. It's not easy times for him, but he showed he's a great player."

De Gea's current deal at Old Trafford is due to expire next June, although the club have the option to activate a one-year extension until the summer of 2024.

There has been talk of a potential new long-term deal, but there have also been claims that Man United are considering moving the Spaniard on to make room for a new number one.

Benfica's Odysseas Vlachodimos has recently been linked with a switch to Old Trafford, with former Red Devils captain Gary Neville claiming that Ten Hag would want a new stopper in the near future.

"We all know where Ten Hag wants to get this United team, he wants 75 per cent possession, players that can handle the ball, defenders can handle the ball and the goalkeeper needs to be brilliant on the ball," Neville said on his podcast following the 6-3 loss to Manchester City last weekend.

"I suspect with David de Gea, his United career is going to be short-lived under Ten Hag. He's [Ten Hag] going to be adamant that his philosophy of playing out from the back, playing those risky passes to the midfield that we see with Ederson all the time, that we no longer see as risky because they do it so well, is something that he's striving for and that he wants to get to."

However, when questioned on his future on Sunday evening, De Gea said that he wants to remain at Old Trafford "for more years".

"I'm just very focused on the games helping the team as much as I can. Of course, I would like to be here for more years, so let's see what happens in the future. I'm really, really happy here," he said.

De Gea has won the Premier League, Europa League, FA Cup and EFL Cup during his time at Old Trafford, while he has also lifted the Community Shield on three separate occasions.

Dean Henderson is set to return from a loan spell at Nottingham Forest next summer, but it is believed that the England international could then depart on a permanent basis, while as it stands, Martin Dubravka will head back to parent club Newcastle United. body check tags ::
