Bayern Munich centre-back Matthijs de Ligt is reportedly open to leaving the Bundesliga champions this summer amid suggestions of interest from Arsenal and Manchester United.

The centre-back's excellent form for Ajax led to a number of clubs battling for his signature, and it is believed that Man United made an attempt to sign him in the summer of 2019.

De Ligt ultimately made the move to Juventus, though, representing the Old Lady on 117 occasions in all competitions, before joining Bayern in the summer of 2022.

The Netherlands international made 43 appearances during his first season at Allianz Arena, winning the DFL-Supercup and Bundesliga in the process, but he has been restricted to just 12 outings this term.

De Ligt has had his injury problems this season and has only actually completed two Bundesliga matches during the 2023-24 campaign.

The 24-year-old has a contract at Allianz Arena until June 2027, but there is currently speculation surrounding his future, with Bayern thought to be open to a summer sale.

Man United are believed to be considering reigniting their interest, while there have also been claims that Arsenal are keeping a close eye on the developments surrounding his future.

According to Sky Deutschland, De Ligt is open to a summer transfer, as he is not prepared to be a back-up centre-back for Bayern.

Dayot Upamecano and Kim Min-jae are currently ahead of him in the pecking order, while Bayern are also the favourites to bring in Ronald Araujo from Barcelona, and the Uruguay international's arrival at Allianz Arena could make De Ligt surplus to requirements.

Man United head coach Erik ten Hag had De Ligt at Ajax and is allegedly determined to push for a reunion this summer, should he keep his job at Old Trafford.

Lisandro Martinez is the only Red Devils centre-back guaranteed to still be at the club next season, with the futures of Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof, Raphael Varane and Jonny Evans all unclear.

Man United are therefore expected to make a new centre-back one of their priorities this summer, and Bayern's apparent desire to do business could place the 20-time English champions in a strong position.

Arsenal's need for a new centre-back is less apparent, with William Saliba and Gabriel both enjoying strong campaigns, but the Gunners are said to be monitoring De Ligt's situation, with senior figures at the Emirates Stadium believed to be admirers of the ex-Ajax youngster. body check tags ::
