Edinson Cavani 'will not leave Manchester United in January'

Edinson Cavani will leave Manchester United on a free transfer next June as planned, according to a report.

Edinson Cavani will reportedly see out the season at Manchester United before leaving the club on a free transfer next June.

The 34-year-old signed a new 12-month deal with the Red Devils in May after impressing during the 2020-21 campaign, scoring 17 times in all competitions for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side.

Cavani has only made one appearance for the 20-time English champions this term, though, and injury will again rule him out of Sunday's Premier League clash with West Ham United.

The Uruguay international was linked with a move away from Old Trafford in the latter stages of the summer transfer window, while there have been suggestions that Cristiano Ronaldo's arrival at the club could lead to the striker attempting to leave in January.

However, according to ESPN Brasil, Cavani will stay in England for the remainder of the season before leaving on a free transfer.

The report claims that Ronaldo's arrival 'is not an intimidating factor' for the South American, who has played alongside the likes of Luis Suarez, Kylian Mbappe, Neymar and Zlatan Ibrahimovic during his career.

Cavani is set to resume first-team training with Man United on Monday and could be involved in the club's EFL Cup contest at home to West Ham on September 22. body check tags ::
