Manchester United head coach Erik ten Hag is "convinced" that the Red Devils will have improved their squad by the time that the transfer window slams shut.

Despite a number of players departing this summer, the 20-time English champions have only made three signings, with Tyrell Malacia, Lisandro Martinez and Christian Eriksen arriving at Old Trafford.

Man United still need a back-up goalkeeper following Dean Henderson's loan move to Nottingham Forest, though, while a new right-back, central midfielder and attacker are also believed to be wanted by Ten Hag before the end of the transfer window.

Negotiations for Barcelona's Frenkie de Jong are continuing, while the club are also being linked with Juventus' Adrien Rabiot and PSV Eindhoven's Cody Gakpo, and the club's head coach is "convinced" that there will be more signings over the next few weeks.

"We have to (improve the squad). I am convinced we will have," Ten Hag told reporters. "I'm happy, I think we're cooperating really well, I cannot tell about any individuals, I cannot talk about players under contract at other clubs."

Man United have been chasing De Jong since the end of May, but the club have thus far been unsuccessful in their attempts to bring him to Old Trafford.

There have been claims that Chelsea are now at the head of the queue for the Netherlands international, but the 20-time English champions are allegedly still in the running for his signature.

Meanwhile, Red Devils football director John Murtough is reportedly in Turin with a view to agreeing a deal with the representatives of Juventus midfielder Rabiot.

Ajax's Antony has been strongly linked with the club this summer, but the Brazil international has seemingly been priced out of a move, with Gakpo now seen as a leading target in the final third of the field.

Man United opened their 2022-23 Premier League campaign with a 2-1 home defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion last weekend, and Ten Hag has said that the team must improve "in many factors".

"We learned a lot but it's normal when you start a season, every season in that part is the same. The team get together, you have to get a way of playing, especially when you are new, what we are," he added.

"You have a new start, you make mistakes. Football is a game of mistakes, so we know we have to improve in many factors, [that's] clear.

"I analyse the game and dwell on what went wrong and where we can improve, where we have to improve, how we have to train and of course we tell and show the players where we have to improve to give them the solutions."

The 20-time English champions will be bidding to bounce back from the disappointing loss when they make the trip to Brentford in Saturday's late start. body check tags ::
