Sven-Goran Eriksson has said that there is "absolutely nothing" in reports linking Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney with a move to Shanghai SIPG.
Rooney has fallen out of favour at Old Trafford after a below-par start to the season and he has been linked with a transfer to either the MLS or the Chinese Super League.
With former England manager Eriksson in charge, Shanghai SIPG appeared to be a potential destination for the 31-year-old, but the Swede has ruled out making any bid for the Three Lions skipper.
Eriksson told The Sun: "I have always known Rooney as a forward — one of the best I have worked with - but we already have Hulk, Elkeson and Dario Conca, who are all very good, as our forwards."
"Everyone knows how much I admire Rooney. That's one thing. To make out we are going to sign him is something else. There is absolutely nothing in it, zero."
Rooney has scored just one goal in 16 games for club and country this season.
