Everton are reportedly leading the race to sign James Garner from Manchester United.
The 21-year-old impressed in a loan spell with Nottingham Forest last season, scoring four goals and providing eight assists in the league to help Steve Cooper's side win promotion via the playoffs.
Following the conclusion of his loan deal, Garner returned to United for the new season and was an unused substitute in the club's opening two Premier League games.
However, he was left out of the squad for the 2-1 defeat to Liverpool, which has led to reports that he could leave the club before the transfer window closes.
According to The Sun, Everton are at the front of the queue to sign Garner as they look to strengthen in the final third, with Anthony Gordon currently linked with a move to Chelsea.
United are believed to be open to selling the England Under-21 international if their asking price of £14m is met.
Although Everton are in talks with United, they could face competition from Southampton, Leeds United and Tottenham Hotspur, who have all been credited with showing an interest. body check tags ::
