Manchester United attacker Bruno Fernandes has urged his club to move for Benfica forward Goncalo Ramos during this summer's transfer window.

The 21-year-old enjoyed an excellent 2022-23 campaign for his Portuguese club, scoring 27 goals and registering 12 assists in 47 appearances in all competitions.

Ramos played a leading role in Benfica's Primeira Liga title success, scoring 19 goals and registering seven assists in 30 appearances, while he also netted three goals and provided three assists in the Champions League, with the Eagles reaching the quarter-finals.

The forward has another three years left to run on his contract at Estadio da Luz, but there is currently a host of speculation surrounding his future, with a number of clubs thought to be monitoring him.

Man United are in the market for a new centre-forward this summer, and Ramos has been heavily linked with a switch to Old Trafford, with the 20-time English champions looking at alternatives to the likes of Tottenham Hotspur's Harry Kane and Napoli's Victor Osimhen.

Fernandes plays alongside Ramos for Portugal, and the Man United attacker has talked-up the potential of his international teammate.

"The best always come in handy, be it Goncalo or another player. He has all the qualities to play in the Premier League, and when I say Premier League I also mean Manchester United," Fernandes told A Bola.

"I think he could become a great reference in the coming years, but it's still not in my hands to be sports director... Goncalo has all the conditions to play in the Premier League, he is very intense, presses very well and is very good inside the area.

"He surprised me in the national team, not only me but the rest of my teammates. He's physically strong, he's still young and he's going to get better.

"If he continues to work as he has been doing, I think he has the potential to be one of the best strikers in the world, but he needs to go to a more competitive league to prove it."

Ramos has featured on seven occasions for his country, scoring four goals and registering two assists in the process.

The centre-forward was famously preferred to Cristiano Ronaldo through the middle against Switzerland in the last-16 stage of the 2022 World Cup and responded by scoring a hat-trick during a brilliant performance.

Earlier this month, it was reported that Man United were leading the race for Ramos despite interest from Chelsea, who are also looking to sign a new centre-forward this summer.

There have also been claims that Erik ten Hag's side would be willing to pay a club-record fee for the Portuguese this summer, with a deal potentially reaching £100m once add-ons have been included. body check tags ::
