Former Manchester United midfielder Fred has seemingly confirmed that Fenerbahce goalkeeper Altay Bayindir will soon move to Old Trafford.
Earlier in the summer transfer window, Fred departed the Premier League side to take on a new challenge in Turkey at the Sukru Saracoglu Stadium.
Since then, the 30-year-old has made two appearances for Fenerbahce, but it appears that he will soon be seeing one of his new teammates move in the opposite direction.
United have been in the market for a new goalkeeper all summer, a consequence of David de Gea departing on a free transfer and Dean Henderson being frequently linked with a transfer elsewhere.
Andre Onana - brought in from Inter Milan - is United's undisputed new number one, but head coach Erik ten Hag has required a new deputy to the Cameroonian.
Over the weekend, it was suggested that Bayindir would take on that role with reports suggesting that he was on his way to England to finalise a transfer.
As it stands, United are yet to confirm a deal for Bayindir, who is on the brink of departing Fenerbahce after making 145 appearances in all competitions.
Despite the lack of official announcement, Fred has told Turkish media that a transfer is imminent, saying at a press conference that the 25-year-old is "going to a great team".
The Brazilian told reporters: "I wished Altay good luck when he left. He's going to a great team. I gave him some suggestions about places where he could live and I told him it rains a lot.
"I think Altay is going to be very happy at Manchester United."
United are allegedly paying €5m (£4.29m) for the Turkey international, a deal that could prove profitable for the club should Henderson depart for Crystal Palace.
Henderson is expected to move to Selhurst Park for a fee in the region of £20m, providing Ten Hag with extra funds to use during the final days of the transfer window.
While the Dutchman has long wanted a new central midfielder, attention is currently on strengthening at left-back due to a long-term injury sustained by Luke Shaw.
Chelsea's Marc Cucurella, Brentford's Rico Henry and Leicester City's Luke Thomas have all been linked with a potential switch to Old Trafford. body check tags ::
