Alejandro Garnacho latest as Manchester United winger at centre of summer 'transfer battle' between three clubs

Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho could be at the centre of a transfer battle between three European clubs, with Ruben Amorim keen to reinvest in his squad.

Alejandro Garnacho's time at Manchester United could reportedly come to an end, with Atletico Madrid said to be the in the best position of three European clubs to secure his services.

The Red Devils' attacking flaws were on full display against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday, with the English giants losing 1-0 at Old Trafford and suffering their 15th defeat of the Premier League season.

Manager Ruben Amorim started Garnacho against Wolves, but the forward failed to score for the 19th time in his last 21 matches for the team in the league.

The 20-year-old has been frequently linked with an exit from United, with teams such as Chelsea said to hold an interest in his signature.

However, Fichajes reports that Napoli, Inter Milan and Atletico Madrid are the three teams best positioned to agree a deal with the Red Devils, though the sides may have to pay a fee in the region of £42m.

Why Garnacho's sale is important for Amorim

United have failed to score in nine of Amorim's 22 Premier League games in charge while also only finding the back of the net once in their four most recent matches.

While the Red Devils must make additions in attack in the summer, co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has implemented several cost-cutting measures in light of the club's poor financial health.

Selling Garnacho could be unpopular amongst some sections of the fan base due to his perceived potential, but his status as a homegrown player means any funds acquired from a sale would contribute significantly more to improving the team's finances than the sale of a non-homegrown player.

Could United strike a deal with Napoli?

The struggles of striker Rasmus Hojlund at United has led fans to clamour for the signing of a new number nine, and the Red Devils may be able to strike an opportunistic deal with Napoli for Victor Osimhen.

The 26-year-old has scored 65 goals and provided 12 assists for the Italian outfit in Serie A in 108 matches, but his relationship with Napoli has deteriorated.

Osimhen is currently on loan at Galatasaray and given his parent club have previously held interest in Garnacho, perhaps United could sign the striker in a swap deal.

However, there is an argument that it would be sensible for Amorim to reinvest the money from Garnacho's sale across the team rather than on one player in one position. body check tags ::
