Manchester United are reportedly still locked in talks with Lazio over the transfer of Mason Greenwood.
The Red Devils are believed to be actively looking to sell Greenwood this summer, with the 22-year-old highly unlikely to represent the 20-time English champions again.
Juventus continue to be credited with an interest in the Englishman, while Getafe's president Angel Torres recently hinted that the forward could be back with the Spanish outfit next season following a successful loan spell during the 2023-24 campaign.
Lazio are also thought to be among the favourites to sign him, and according to the Daily Mail, the Italian outfit are in talks with Man United over a deal.
The report claims that the overall package being discussed could reach £40m once various add-ons have been taken into consideration.
Lazio 'pushing to sign Greenwood'
Man United are keen on a permanent exit this summer, as any transfer involving Greenwood would count as pure profit under the Premier League's rules surrounding profit and sustainability.
However, it is believed that a loan deal for the 2024-25 campaign could be agreed, providing that there is an obligation for Lazio to purchase him next summer.
As it stands, Greenwood is set to begin pre-season training with Man United on July 8, and it would be his first appearance at the club's Carrington training complex since January 2022.
Little over two years ago, following accusations from a woman, the forward was arrested on suspicion of rape and assault, and he was then further arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and threats to kill.
Greenwood was also facing charges of attempted rape, engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm, but the case against him was officially dropped last February, allowing him to resume his career during the 2023-24 campaign.
Greenwood impressed at Getafe last season
The forward scored 10 goals and registered six assists in 36 appearances for Getafe last season, with the La Liga side controversially signing him on loan.
Earlier this year, Man United's new minority shareholder Sir Jim Ratcliffe hinted that there could be a route for Greenwood back into the first team at Old Trafford.
However, it is now widely thought that the Red Devils academy product will leave Old Trafford on a permanent basis during this summer's transfer window.
Before his arrest, Greenwood was regarded as one of the best young talents in world football, representing Man United on 129 occasions, scoring 35 goals and registering 12 assists in the process.
The forward's last appearance for the Red Devils came against West Ham United in January 2022, playing 82 minutes of a 1-0 success for the hosts at Old Trafford. body check tags ::
