Getafe president Angel Torres has said that on-loan Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood wants to remain with the Spanish outfit for "another year".

Having been told that he had no future at Man United last summer, the 22-year-old moved on loan to Getafe for the 2023-24 campaign, and he has been in strong form for the club this season, scoring seven goals and registering five assists in 24 appearances in all competitions.

Barcelona continue to be heavily linked with the Englishman, but a recent report claimed that Greenwood would turn down the chance to move to Camp Nou if he was given a second chance at Old Trafford.

Man United's new minority shareholder Sir Jim Ratcliffe has suggested that there could be a route for him back into the first-team squad for the 2024-25 campaign.

Torres has said that it will be up to the Red Devils to decide his future, but the Getafe president believes that Greenwood wants to spend "another year" with his club.

"He has a clear conscience, he is very comfortable and crazy about staying another year. It's a matter that they [United] have to decide," Torres told COPE.

"There is new ownership. They have to decide. In Spain, he has a market but they [Barcelona] have money. Barca's way of playing would suit him well but it depends on Manchester United. If it's true, he'll tell me."

Greenwood has scored five goals and registered five assists in 21 La Liga appearances this season, while he also managed two goals in three Copa del Rey appearances before Getafe's elimination.

The forward has scored 35 goals and registered 12 assists in 129 appearances for Man United, meanwhile, but he has not turned out for the 20-time English champions since January 2022.

Two years ago, following accusations from a woman, Greenwood was arrested on suspicion of rape and assault, and he was then further arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and threats to kill.

Greenwood was also facing charges of attempted rape, engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm, but the case against him was dropped last February.

Man United are believed to have made the decision to bring him back into their squad last summer but were then forced into a U-turn due to the public backlash.

Ratcliffe has said that the club will look at "the real facts" before making "a fair decision" this summer.

A number of other Spanish clubs, including Real Sociedad and Valencia, are also believed to be keeping a close eye on the situation due to his strong performances in La Liga this term.
