Manchester United youngster Harry Amass could reportedly leave Old Trafford on loan in January, with a number of EFL clubs said to be showing an interest in the highly-rated left-back.

The 17-year-old made the move to the Red Devils from Watford last year, and he is regarded as one of the best young talents at the club.

Amass impressed during Man United's pre-season tour of the United States, and he has been on the bench for two Premier League matches this season, but the Englishman is yet to make his first-team debut.

The returns of Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia will make it difficult for the teenager to earn minutes in the second half of the 2024-25 campaign, and according to Football Insider, he could leave the Red Devils on loan in January.

The report claims that a number of EFL clubs are keeping a close eye on the situation and will launch offers if it becomes clear that Man United are willing to let him depart on a short-term basis.

EFL clubs 'interested in signing Man United youngster Amass on loan'

Amass has been capped on four occasions by England Under-18s, while he has featured on nine occasions in Premier League 2 and played three times in the EFL Trophy during his time at Old Trafford.

There has also recently been suggestions of interest from Aston Villa, with Unai Emery's side believed to be huge admirers of the defender, who was on the radar of a number of major clubs during his time at Watford.

Amass had widely been expected to start the 2024-25 campaign as Man United's first-choice left-back due to the injuries for Shaw and Malacia, but he was ultimately overlooked by the club's former head coach Erik ten Hag.

Should Man United let Amass leave on loan?

It is difficult to imagine Amass making his first-team debut any time soon considering that Shaw and Malacia are now back to fitness, so a loan departure in January does make a lot of sense.

Amass needs first-team exposure at this stage of his career to build his skillset, and a short-term move to a Championship club could prove to be incredibly beneficial for the teenager.

There is uncertainty when it comes to his long-term future at Old Trafford, as Man United are widely expected to sign a new left-back in 2025 - one capable of operating as a wing-back in Ruben Amorim's 3-4-3 system.

As a result, a difficult decision may have to be made when it comes to Amass, but if the Englishman stars on loan in the Football League in the second half of this season, then he could return to Old Trafford next summer ready for the first team. body check tags ::
