Manchester United are reportedly among the clubs interested in signing AZ Alkmaar youngster Ruben van Bommel.
The 20-year-old is the son of the legendary Mark van Bommel, who famously turned out for the likes of Barcelona, Bayern Munich and AC Milan during a brilliant professional career.
Ruben van Bommel is making his own way in the game, spending seven years in the PSV youth academy before starting his professional career with MVV Maastricht.
The forward moved to AZ in 2023, and he has represented the Dutch outfit on 47 occasions, scoring 13 goals and registering three assists in the process.
This season, the Dutchman has scored twice and registered two assists in six Eredivisie appearances, while he starred in his team's Europa League opener against Elfsborg last week.
Man United 'showing an interest in Van Bommel'
Ruben van Bommel scored twice in his side's 3-2 success over Elfsborg to make it six goals for the campaign, as he also netted twice for AZ's second team at the start of August.
According to Fichajes, a number of the world's biggest clubs are showing an interest in the youngster, with AZ expected to find it difficult to keep him beyond next summer.
The report claims that Man United are closely following his development, but the 20-time English champions are expected to face competition from Bayern Munich.
AZ are in a strong position when it comes to the attacker's future, as his contract has another three years left to run, but the Dutch outfit will struggle to resist a big-money offer from a major club.
Could Van Bommel replace Rashford?
Van Bommel largely operates off the left, which is Marcus Rashford's favourite position, and his arrival could lead to the Red Devils academy product being sold.
Rashford was again linked with a move away from Old Trafford during the recent transfer window, but a serious offer did not arrive despite suggestions of interest from Paris Saint-Germain.
The forward has shown signs of improvement this season, scoring three times in all competitions, but he has only found the back of the net on one occasion in the Premier League.
If Rashford has another difficult campaign, then it might be best for both the player and Man United to part ways during next summer's transfer window, and exciting young talent Van Bommel could be given the chance to carve out a career with one of the biggest clubs on the planet. body check tags ::
