Liverpool are reportedly set to rival Manchester United for the signature of PSV Eindhoven forward Cody Gakpo.
After registering 13 goals and 17 assists in 24 appearances for PSV Eindhoven this season, Gakpo has continued his club form at the World Cup, where he has scored a goal in all three of the Netherlands' group games.
His impressive performances have caught the attention of a number of Premier League clubs, while a recent report claimed that Man United had reached an agreement in principle to sign the forward, but they could face competition from Liverpool.
According to the Liverpool Echo, the Merseyside club are set to enter talks with Gakpo's representatives over a possible move.
The 23-year-old looked set to join Leeds United in the summer, but he reportedly turned down the opportunity following a phone call with Netherlands' boss Louis van Gaal, who indicated that he would likely start for his country if he remained with PSV.
With Liverpool expected to battle the Red Devils for Gakpo's services, PSV are hoping to receive a fee in excess of €50m (£42.2m) for a player who is currently under contract until June 2026. body check tags ::
