Liverpool will not pursue a deal to sign Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Matheus Nunes this month, according to a report.
Jurgen Klopp is keen to bolster his midfield options this year, with James Milner, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain all out of contract at the end of the season.
The Reds were allegedly interested in signing Nunes over the summer before he completed a club-record €45m (£39.8m) transfer to Wolves from Sporting Lisbon.
The 24-year-old has since featured 17 times for Julen Lopetegui's side across all competitions this season, scoring once, and he is under contract at Molineux until June 2027 with an option to extend his deal by a further 12 months.
A recent report claims that Liverpool are prepared to reignite their interest in Nunes and are weighing up a £44m bid for the Portugal international.
However, The Express reports that a potential switch for Nunes to Anfield is more likely to take place in the summer if Liverpool can agree a fee with Wolves.
New Wolves boss Lopetegui recently insisted that Nunes is content at Molineux and has suggested that the club have no intention to sell the midfielder.
Speaking to reporters, via talkSPORT, Lopetegui said: "We can say that Matheus is our player. He's a Wolves player and he's so happy here."
Nunes could lock horns against Liverpool when Wolves make the trip to Anfield in the third round of the FA Cup on Saturday night.
Nunes is believed to be one of a number of midfielders on Liverpool's radar, along with Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham.
The 19-year-old, who is valued in excess of £100m, is regarded as a top target for Klopp, but the Reds face stern competition from the likes of Real Madrid, Manchester City, Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain for his signature.
A potential move for Benfica's in-demand midfielder Enzo Fernandez has also been mooted, while Liverpool are also said to hold an interest in Borussia Monchengladbach's Kouadio Kone and Atalanta BC's Teun Koopmeiners.
Klopp has made one signing so far this month, with Dutch forward Cody Gakpo arriving from PSV Eindhoven for an initial fee of around £37m. body check tags ::
