Manchester United have reportedly accepted a loan offer from Lorient for Donny van de Beek.
The Netherlands international is surplus to requirements at Old Trafford, and the Red Devils had been hopeful of moving him on permanently before the end of the transfer window.
However, a proposed move to Real Sociedad broke down, and it is believed that the majority of interest at this stage of the transfer market is arriving in the shape of loan offers.
According to Foot Mercato, Man United have accepted a loan offer from Lorient, but the French side are yet to come to an agreement with the midfielder over a move.
The report claims that Lorient will face a host of competition for the 26-year-old, with a number of other teams keen to acquire his services for the 2023-24 campaign.
Van de Beek has another two years left to run on his contract at Old Trafford, having penned a five-year deal upon his arrival from Ajax in the summer of 2020.
The Dutchman moved to Manchester off the back of a very successful period at Ajax, where he made 175 appearances, scoring 41 goals and registering 34 assists in the process.
However, the midfielder has found it difficult to make his mark at Old Trafford, only managing two goals and two assists in 60 appearances in all competitions.
Van de Beek was restricted to just 10 outings last term due to a serious knee injury, while he has not been used in the early stages of the 2023-24 campaign.
Lorient finished 10th in Ligue 1 last season and are not in Europe this term, which could make it difficult for them to convince the midfielder to move to Stade du Moustoir.
There had been suggestions that Ajax were keen to bring him back to Amsterdam, but the talk surrounding a potential return to the Dutch outfit has quietened in recent days.
Man United are expected to sign a central midfielder before the transfer deadline, with a recent report claiming that a loan move for Sofyan Amrabat is now possible.
The 20-time English champions are said to be in talks with Fiorentina over a potential loan agreement, as a permanent move this summer is unlikely due to the rules surrounding Financial Fair Play. body check tags ::
