Manchester United have reportedly reached an agreement in principle with Fulham over a move for Andreas Pereira.
The 26-year-old fell out of favour under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer before the Norwegian's departure and has spent the past year back in his native Brazil with Flamengo.
Pereira is due to return to Old Trafford at the end of the month, though, and there have been suggestions that he could be handed a lifeline under Erik ten Hag.
However, with the Brazil international only having 12 months left to run on his contract with the Red Devils, the club will likely try to recoup a fee this summer rather than risk losing him on a free in 2023.
Flamengo are understood to possess an option to make Pereira's loan deal permanent, and manager Dorival Junior recently announced his desire to make that scenario a reality.
"It's just an opinion. I hope he stays. Players of this level, players with this potential, are few in Brazil. I have no doubt that this boy can still grow a lot, he can evolve a lot," Junior told reporters.
"How will it happen? I don't know, but it would be really nice if we could hold onto this kid because he has a lot of qualities. He is a player that draws attention in any way. He has growth potential, players of that level are scarce at the moment within this country."
However, journalist Marcelo Hazan instead claims that Fulham have moved to try to secure the signature of Pereira, and the Cottagers have a deal in place with Man United.
Hazan reports that Fulham will pay an upfront fee of €10m (£8.6m) to sign the midfielder, which could rise to a total of €13m (£11.2m) with performance-related add-ons.
Personal terms with Pereira are yet to be agreed, but the South American is seemingly set to leave Man United 10 years after joining the club's youth academy from PSV Eindhoven.
Pereira has only made 75 senior appearances for the 20-time English champions, though, scoring four goals and providing five assists in the process.
The 26-year-old managed five goals in 18 Brasileiro appearances during his debut season with Flamengo last year, and he has scored twice and provided two assists in 28 games during the 2022 campaign so far.
Should Pereira seal a move to Fulham in the coming weeks, the midfielder would follow Edinson Cavani, Lee Grant, Juan Mata, Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic and Jesse Lingard out of the Old Trafford exit door.
Goalkeeper Dean Henderson is also thought to be heading for Nottingham Forest on loan, but Man United fans are still awaiting their club's first signing of the summer window.
Talks are ongoing over a deal for Frenkie de Jong, and the Red Devils have allegedly turned down a proposal from Barcelona that would have seen Harry Maguire head in the opposite direction. body check tags ::
