Manchester United football director John Murtough reportedly met with Red Bull Salzburg attacker Benjamin Sesko's agent last week to discuss a possible deal.
The 19-year-old's future has recently been the subject of much speculation, with a number of clubs said to be interested in signing him during the summer transfer window.
Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has claimed that the Red Devils are admirers of the striker, who was on the scoresheet against Liverpool in a pre-season friendly on Wednesday night.
Sesko has scored 13 times in 40 appearances for his Austrian club, including 11 goals in 37 outings during the 2021-22 campaign, while he also provided seven assists last term.
The teenager is off the mark for the new campaign, meanwhile, scoring twice and providing one assist in two appearances, including a goal and an assist in Salzburg's Austrian Bundesliga season opener last Friday.
According to the Manchester Evening News, Murtough met with Sesko's agent, Elvis Basanovic, to discuss a possible move to Old Trafford this summer.
The report claims that Man United are looking to sign at least one attacker before the end of the window, but two could arrive if Cristiano Ronaldo is successful in his attempts to leave the club.
Sesko, who is 6ft 4in, has been compared to Erling Braut Haaland, who made the move to Manchester City from Borussia Dortmund earlier this summer.
"Such comparisons motivate me and give me energy," Sesko told reporters. "They do not represent pressure. I will listen and learn so I can be even better than he is.
"My teammates at the club tell me that Haaland and I are very similar, especially in terms of speed. Most of them even tell me that I'm better than him!"
Basanovic previously said that a number of "really big clubs" tried to sign the youngster in 2019, but Salzburg ultimately won the race, paying a fee of £2.2m to acquire his services from Domzale.
"We had a lot of offers from really big clubs," Basanovic told SPOX at the time. "Had we decided on the money, Benjamin would have moved to England or Italy.
"But we decided to look at the bigger picture and the Salzburg project. The biggest clubs in Europe tried to get him. The interest in him was huge; I have never seen anything like it before.
"Salzburg has given Benjamin a path. Here, he can develop. The people in charge really wanted him, which was important to us. Here he also has a greater chance of playing for the first team sooner or later.
"Benjamin is one of the greatest talents of his age group in Europe. He has an incredible body, is tall, fast, has great jumping ability, is technically gifted and his greatest strength is his finishing."
Chelsea, Newcastle United, Liverpool, Real Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur have also been credited with an interest in the teenager, who has scored twice in 13 appearances for Slovenia.
Salzburg are in a strong position to demand a high transfer fee for the forward, though, as he has a contract with the Red Bulls until the summer of 2026. body check tags ::
