Manchester United are reportedly pushing to sign Real Madrid midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni during this summer's transfer window.
The 23-year-old was linked with a number of clubs following an impressive 2021-22 campaign at Monaco, but it was Real Madrid that won the race for his signature.
Tchouameni was a regular for Los Blancos last season, making 50 appearances in all competitions, contributing four assists in the process, but he was not a starter for the team in the latter stages of their Champions League campaign.
There will be increased competition for a starting role at Bernabeu next term, with Jude Bellingham arriving in a big-money deal from Borussia Dortmund.
Arsenal have recently been linked with Tchouameni, while Liverpool are believed to have made a strong attempt to sign the France international last summer.
However, according to Nacional, Man United are currently leading the race for the midfielder, with the Red Devils pushing to secure his signature.
The report claims that Man United head coach Erik ten Hag views Tchouameni as the ideal player to feature alongside Casemiro in central midfield, and directors of the Red Devils are preparing to travel to Spain.
Man United chiefs will allegedly meet with Real Madrid president Florentino Perez to discuss a transfer, with the Spanish giants thought to be willing to sell for a fee in the region of £69m.
Real Madrid are said to be keen to keep hold of the Frenchman but would not stand in his way if he made it clear that he wanted to seek pastures new after one season in Madrid.
Tchouameni started his professional career at Bordeaux before making the move to Monaco, turning out for the Ligue 1 club between 2020 and 2022 before moving to Real Madrid.
The Frenchman helped Carlo Ancelotti's side win the Copa del Rey, UEFA Super Cup and Club World Cup during his first campaign at the Bernabeu.
Man United are on the verge of completing the signing of Mason Mount from Chelsea, with the England international set to arrive for an initial £55m fee.
However, Ten Hag is thought to be keen to add another midfielder to his squad this summer, and there could be room in the budget if Fred, Scott McTominay and Donny van de Beek were to move on. body check tags ::
