Manchester United have reportedly identified Monaco midfielder Youssouf Fofana as a potential replacement for Casemiro.
Following his arrival from Real Madrid in 2022, Casemiro went on to enjoy an impressive first season with Man United, contributing with seven goals and seven assists in 53 appearances across all competitions.
The Brazilian was a key part of a Man United side that won the EFL Cup and secured a top-four finish in the Premier League to qualify for the Champions League.
However, rather than build upon last season's success, Casemiro has struggled to find his best form this season, with his performances drawing scrutiny from some quarters.
The experienced midfielder, who is out until the new year with a hamstring injury, now faces an uncertain future at Old Trafford amid speculation about a potential January departure.
A recent report claimed Man United will consider offloading the Brazil international in the winter transfer window, with clubs from Saudi Arabia believed to be showing an interest.
Man United are now scouring the market for potential replacements, and according to RMC Sport, they are considering Fofana as a possible option.
The report suggests Man United were interested in recruiting Fofana on a loan deal in the closing stages of the summer transfer window.
Fofana ultimately remained with Monaco, where he has started all 12 league matches this season to help his side move into third place in the Ligue 1 table.
In total, Fofana has registered three goals and 14 assists in 151 appearances since joining Monaco from Strasbourg in 2020.
Man United are not the only club showing interest, with Italian giants Juventus and French champions Paris Saint-Germain said to be among the midfielder's admirers.
Fofana has already entered the final two years of his contract, which could convince Monaco to entertain offers next year.
The 24-year-old, who has represented France on 12 occasions, is currently with Didier Deschamps's side ahead of their upcoming Euro 2024 qualifiers against Gibraltar and Greece. body check tags ::
