Manchester United are reportedly 'very interested' in bringing Lille forward Jonathan David to Old Trafford before the January transfer window closes for business.
Red Devils head coach Erik ten Hag has suggested that his side could be active before the end of the month, with a new striker believed to be on his wishlist.
Rasmus Hojlund, Scott McTominay and Bruno Fernandes are the team's joint-leading goalscorers in all competitions this season with six, while McTominay has the most in the Premier League this term with five.
Hojlund scored his first goal in England's top flight against Aston Villa on Boxing Day, but the Denmark international lacks support in the final third, with Anthony Martial potentially being allowed to leave the club before the end of the January market.
Martial only has a contract at Old Trafford until the end of June, and it is understood that the Frenchman will depart on a free transfer if he does not leave in January.
Man United cannot be overly active this month due to Financial Fair Play restrictions, while Sir Jim Ratcliffe's arrival as a minority shareholder has not yet been ratified by the Premier League.
However, according to FootballTransfers, the 20-time English champions are keen to bring Lille's David to the club before the market closes.
The report claims that Man United, alongside Premier League rivals Villa, are being kept informed of any developments when it comes to the Canada international's future.
AC Milan are also said to be keen on David, but it is alleged that the forward is determined to make the move to the Premier League in 2024.
David joined Lille from Gent in 2020, and he has represented his current side on 160 occasions in all competitions, scoring 68 goals and registering 15 assists in the process.
The Canadian has again been in strong form during the 2023-24 campaign, meanwhile, managing 10 goals and six assists in 24 appearances in all competitions.
Lille remain determined to keep hold of David, but he has entered the final 18 months of his contract with the French outfit and is not allegedly interested in signing an extension.
The forward's Ligue 1 record stands at 57 goals and eight assists in 129 appearances, while he has three goals in eight appearances in the Champions League for Les Dogues.
The 23-year-old also netted 13 times during his side's 2020-21 Ligue 1 title-winning campaign. body check tags ::
