Manchester United-linked Sergino Dest 'determined to stay at Barcelona'

Barcelona defender Sergino Dest wants to stay at Camp Nou this summer amid interest from Manchester United, according to a report.

Sergino Dest is reportedly still determined to remain at Barcelona this summer despite the recent speculation linking him with a switch to Manchester United.

The 21-year-old still has another three years left to run on his contract at Camp Nou, while he has been a regular for the club since his arrival from Ajax in October 2020, making 72 appearances in all competitions.

Last term, the United States international featured on 31 occasions in all competitions, contributing three assists in the process, despite struggling with a number of fitness problems.

Dest missed the end of the campaign with a muscular problem, while he also had spells on the sidelines with an adductor issue and COVID-19 during a difficult season.

There has recently been speculation surrounding the right-back's future, with Man United believed to be keen to bring him to Old Trafford before the end of the window.

A recent report claimed that the 20-time English champions had been in touch with Barcelona to register their interest in the former Ajax youngster.

There have been suggestions that Dest could be available for as little as €20m (£16.7m), with head coach Xavi not said to view him as part of his long-term plans.

However, according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, the American is determined to stay at Camp Nou and has no desire to switch clubs during this summer's transfer window.

Barcelona have been strongly linked with Cesar Azpilicueta this summer, as the club look to boost their options at right-back, but the Spain international is now said to be preparing to sign a new deal at Chelsea.

As a result, the Catalan side are unlikely to sanction an exit for Dest unless they can secure a replacement.

Diogo Dalot is widely expected to start the 2022-23 Premier League season as Man United's first-choice right-back, with the Portugal international taking on that role in the second half of last term.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka has allegedly been made surplus to requirements at Old Trafford, while Ethan Laird is expected to leave on loan over the next few days.

Brandon Williams is also said to be on the transfer list, and exits for all three would leave the Red Devils short of cover on the right side of their defence.

Inter Milan's Denzel Dumfries was linked with a move to Old Trafford earlier in the window, although talk of a move for the Netherlands international has quietened of late.

Man United are preparing to open their Premier League campaign at home to Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday, while Barcelona will begin their La Liga season at home to Rayo Vallecano on August 13. body check tags ::
