Manchester United and Newcastle United are both reportedly interested in signing Inter Milan attacker Hakan Calhanoglu during the January transfer window.
The 28-year-old has again been an important player for his Italian club during the 2022-23 campaign, making 13 appearances in all competitions, contributing two goals and three assists in the process.
However, the Turkey international's contract is due to expire in June 2024, and there has been a host of speculation surrounding his future over the last few months.
According to Calciomercato, Man United and Newcastle are both tracking the attacker ahead of the opening of the January transfer window.
The report claims that the Red Devils view him as the ideal player to boost their attacking options, while Newcastle want him as part of the next phase of their development.
Inter are allegedly open to selling Calhanoglu in January, and an offer in the region of €35m (£30.5m) would potentially be enough to convince the Italian outfit to let him leave.
The versatile midfielder controversially made the move to Inter from AC Milan in June 2021 after running down his contract with the Red and Blacks.
In 59 appearances for Inter, he has contributed 10 goals and 16 assists, helping the club win the Coppa Italia and Italian Super Cup during his time with them.
Calhanoglu also made 115 appearances for Bayer Leverkusen earlier in his career, while he turned out on 172 occasions for AC Milan before the switch to I Nerazzurri.
Both Man United and Newcastle are believed to be attracted by the Turk's ability to play in a number of different positions.
Calhanoglu has largely played as a central midfielder this season, but he is also capable of pushing further forward or playing the holding role in the middle of the park.
The former Karlsruher SC youngster also has experience of playing in the Champions League, making 30 appearances in the competition for Leverkusen and Inter.
Man United football director John Murtough recently played down the chances of his side being active during the winter window due to their activity over the summer.
However, Newcastle are currently being linked with a number of players, with Chelsea's Christian Pulisic and Real Madrid's Marco Asensio both said to be leading targets.
