Manchester United are reportedly prepared to rival Nottingham Forest for Juventus midfielder Douglas Luiz.

The Brazilian has endured a nightmare season in Italy after he joined Juventus from Premier League side Aston Villa last summer.

Luiz has been restricted to just three starts in 16 Serie A appearances this season due to a combination of injuries and selection decisions.

The 26-year-old recently expressed his frustration when he hit back at a fan on Instagram after being questioned about whether he moved to Italy to post on social media or play football.

In response, Luiz wrote: "I didn't come here just to post photos. No one else did that, and I want things to be different.

"I came here with a purpose. I listened to my heart when I arrived and decided to sign. Now I want you to answer me: why hasn't a signing like mine played two consecutive games with this shirt?

"You can say what you want to the press later: 'Oh, Douglas is not fit.' Am I not fit? I did all the pre-season and played every game. I had just had one of the best seasons of my career, one of the best midfielders in the Premier League."

"'Injuries have hindered me, yes. But how long did I remain on the bench while I was healthy? A lot. These injuries were not normal.

'I have never been a player who gets injured, but there are so many things that could have caused this that I would rather not comment on. I will continue to do everything for this club, even if sometimes it is difficult, it is not easy, but you can count on me!'

With Luiz clearly frustrated by his situation, he could be offered the chance to return to the Premier League after just one season in the Italian top flight.

According to Forbes, Man United are showing an interest in signing the former Manchester City midfielder in the summer transfer window.

The Red Devils could potentially view Luiz as a replacement for his compatriot, Casemiro, with the experienced midfielder facing an uncertain future at Old Trafford.

United will reportedly face competition from Nottingham Forest, who remain admirers of Luiz despite failing in their bid to prise him away from Turin in January.

Will Juventus sell Luiz?

The Brazil international signed a long-term contract when he joined Juventus last summer, with his deal set to run until the summer of 2029.

However, the Serie A giants are seemingly ready to cut their losses and listen to offers for Luiz at the end of the season.

A Premier League return could appeal to the player after he built a strong reputation during his 204 appearances at Aston Villa. body check tags ::
