Manchester United were reportedly not prepared to terminate Marcos Rojo's contract this summer.
The 30-year-old is back at Old Trafford after a loan spell at Estudiantes but is not in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's plans and has been left out of United's squad for the group stages of the Champions League.
According to The Transfer Window Podcast, Rojo asked the Red Devils to terminate his contract over the summer amid interest from a number of Turkish clubs.
However, the 20-time English champions are said to have turned down the request as they were not prepared to let the versatile defender leave on a free transfer.
The Argentina international has a contract at Old Trafford until next summer and now looks set to remain with the club until at least the January transfer window.
Rojo has featured on 122 occasions for United in all competitions but has not turned out for the club since last November.
