Roma have reportedly failed with an offer of £13m for Manchester United defender Chris Smalling.
While Roma were successful in securing a season-long loan deal for the centre-back during the summer, United were not prepared to include an option for the Italian giants to push through a full-time transfer.
However, with Smalling impressing in Serie A since his switch to the Stadio Olimpico, Roma are keen to push through a permanent deal before other clubs up their interest in the Englishman.
According to the Daily Star, United have opted to reject Roma's latest offer, with Ed Woodward intent on selling to the highest bidder in one of the upcoming transfer windows.
The report claims that although Smalling is 'flattered' by attention from AC Milan and Inter Milan, the 29-year-old would prefer to continue his career in Italy's capital.
Smalling has just over three-and-a-half years left on his contract at Old Trafford.
